Boiler Upgrade Scheme: approval to over-allocate vouchers
Posted on 03 October 2024 in Blog
The UK government has recently approved an increase in the allocation of vouchers for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). Due to a surge in applications, the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero has authorized Ofgem to over-allocate vouchers by up to £50 million for this financial year, bringing the total to £200 million. This move ensures that consumers and the industry can continue installing heat pumps and biomass boilers without interruption.
The BUS aims to support the transition from fossil fuel heating systems to more sustainable options, offering grants of up to £7,500 for heat pump installations. This increase in funding highlights the government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting renewable energy solutions.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Property Location: The property must be located in England or Wales.
Ownership: Applicants must own the property they are applying for, which can include businesses, second homes, or rental properties.
Existing Heating System: The existing heating system must be fossil fuel-based, such as oil, gas, electric, or LPG.
Energy Performance Certificate (EPC): The property must have a valid EPC with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation.
Installation Capacity: The installation capacity of the new system must not exceed 45 kilowatts.
